Abstract

Many domestic hens that are raised outdoors or in a free-ranging home environment unknowingly consume sand, especially when this is often the case when they bathe in soil or consume with sand. This means that an average of 10-20% of the daily diet of hens raised outdoors or at home consists of sand. This study examined the effect of egg-laying hens on productivity (egg production, eggs weight, body weight), feed digestion, and some physiological parameters of the blood when fed with a feed containing up to 30% sand.
